Yasmin Rai is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from London. Her work centres around obsessive earworms and uncomfortable truths, deploying lyrics with mathematical precision and profound lexical dexterity to navigate the chaotic emotions that live on the axis of freedom from the self, from reality, and from pain:
"I compromised my honour for the promises that I made / I compromised my common sense for the confidence that I gave you" (from POWER [PART I]).
Her upcoming debut record has contributions from Brett Shaw (Florence + the Machine, FOALS) and Sebastian Sartor (Kanye, Pusha T), and received the Seed Award 2025.
Yasmin’s interdisciplinary art practice has seen her invited to perform and compose for Serpentine’s ‘Queer Earth and Liquid Matters’ Festival as part of their Back to Earth programme, the ICA, and Horse Hospital, designing soundscapes and performing in collaboration with TS-prize winning poet Bhanu Kapil.
She writes from a place of magic and mania, slipping in and out of hidden universes with razor-sharp sonic worlds. Her music inherits the philosophical chaos of her earlier compositional experiments and refracts it into a fierce, deeply personal, emotionally resonant pop sound.
